Coach Amber-Hurdles

Amber is an 8th generation Texan who was born and raised in San
Antonio. She discovered a love for running early on in elementary school when
she could easily beat all of the boys. Competitive by nature, Amber started
competing on a CYO track team at St Matthews church at the age of 8 and
continued running all the way through college where she was a scholarship track
athlete at Texas A&M. Her middle school coach put her into the hurdles on a
moment’s notice after someone else twisted an ankle at the meet and she won
the 100m hurdles. That quickly became her event and she went on to run at
Clark High School where she ran the 4X100m relay, anchored the 4X200m relay
that won District several years, and won District, Regionals, & qualified for the
5A State track meet in the 100m hurdles every year that she ran. Amber
discovered AAU summer track her senior year of high school and she competed
at the Junior Olympics in the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles. She went on to
run at Texas A&M when it was the top hurdling program in the nation and she
was blessed to be a part of a team that won the Shuttle Hurdle Relay (4X100m
hurdles) at Penn Relays. Amber was also Texas A&M’s first female polo vaulter
but hurdles will always be her favorite track event.
Amber has coached track for CYO and several area private schools and
was Head Track & Field coach at the Montessori School of San Antonio for 2
years. She is currently the Hurdles Coach and Assistant Middle School Track
Coach at TMI Episcopal School, and she has been coaching hurdles with the
Comets since 2022. Her son, Cass has competed with the Comets since 2018
and he is currently a freshman in high school and competes in the 110m hurdles
and the 300m Hurdles. Amber loves track, and she continues to study the
science of hurdling under one of the top olympic level hurdle coaches in the
sport. Coaching is a divine calling for her and she considers it a joy and an honor
to be able to pour her knowledge into the next generation of hurdlers.
Amber lives in Pipe Creek with her husband, Jim, son Cass, daughter
Harper, and lots of pets. She has been a part of the Boerne community for over
20 years and she enjoys riding horses (jumpers of course), gardening, and
quilting in her free time.
